Cheshire Phoenix are delighted to announce the signing of American Point Guard, LaQuincy Rideau (185-G-1996, college: S.Florida)

The Florida Native last played in Ecuador with Punto Rojo LR and is looking to make an instant impact in the British Basketball League.

Staying close to home, Rideau spent his last two years of his college career playing NCAA Divison 1 basketball with the South Florida Bulls after transferring from Gardner-Webb University.

Recognised as a tough and resilient defender, Rideau was rewarded with defensive player of the year in 2019 in the prestigious AAC league. After setting a new American Athletic Conference single-season steals record (101 on the season, 2.89 Steals Per Game), he was the first player in the team's history to win this prestigous trophy.

Rideau was named in the All-AAC Third team in 2019 alongside some impressive NBA names including Taco Fall, DaQuan Jeffries and current Euroleague player Jalen Adams.

Starting his professional career in Luxembourg, Rideau joined Residence Walferdange in 2020. He would average an impressive 20.1 Points Per Game, 7.3 Rebounds, 5 assists and 3.1 Steals.

After stints in Slovenia with KK Sentjur and Ecuador with Punto Rojo LR, Rideau, the 27-year-old is primed to leave his mark in the BBL and bring his defensive accumen to Ben Thomas' squad.

RIDEAU - I'm very excited for the opportunity to be part of the Cheshire Phoenix family. I'm ready to get this thing rolling and looking forward to it! #whynot.

Head Coach Ben Thomas

"It's great to have Q with us next season! His individual accolades speak for themselves, especially his defensive player of the year - in a very tough and high-level conference. He makes a massive difference to the teams he plays on, and we have seen that in his Pro Career so far. I know how much this upcoming season means to LaQuincy and how focussed he is on making sure this is one of his best."
